Out & About

Things to do and places to go.

You are perfectly placed

Falmouth, on the South Coast is only 7 miles away while Portreath on the North is only 6 miles away

We want you to have an excellent stay at Chy Bian, here are just a few fantastic places, all within easy reach.

A beautiful location

It doesn't matter when you visit Cornwall, or what the weather is like, you'll find no shortage of things to do and spectacular places to see. Whilst fantastic beaches are one of Cornwall's main draws there are also options for rainy days and fun filled family days out. We are situated in a beautiful part of Cornwall and are only 20 minutes drive away from either the North or South Coasts.

Dine out on the beach

There are many gorgeous locations locally to dine out:
The Watering Hole in Perranporth boasts being the UK's only bar on a beach
Rick Stein has a restaurant right on Fistral Beach, Newquay.
Lewinick Lodge (our favourite where you can eat on a large decked area overlooking the North Coast)
All these are within easy reach of Chy Lowen

The Bissoe Bike Trail

This Coast to Coast route starts on the Atlantic Coast at Portreath, once an important harbour for the surrounding mines, and finishes at the picturesque harbour village of Devoran. These sign-posted, largely off-road routes have been specially created for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. Refreshments and food are available at good pubs in Portreath, Scorrier (mid way) and Devoran. Click here for more information.

Truro, Redruth and Falmouth

The Cathedral City of Truro is only a few miles away which is great for shoppers and those who like dining out. It has a mix of art galleries, bars, restaurants, nightclubs, a cinema, the Hall for Cornwall, Truro Cathedral and the Royal Cornwall Museum make it a popular year round destination. There is plenty to see and do, whether you are keen to shop, dine with friends, visit the gardens, watch an event or simply meander through the Georgian streets we are sure you will enjoy Truro. If this wasn't enough, you can catch the boat to Falmouth (times will be dependant on tides).

Walking - Within walking distance

The extensive Tresavean Mining complex was once the third largest copper mine in Cornwall and it's beautiful and picturesque remains are right on your doorstop. Today only the remains of one of its 13 engine houses survive. Tresavean had the first engine to take miners down the shaft (before that they descended the 1728 feet by ladder!) and the first electronically driven turbines to pump out water from the mine. The trails litterally go for miles and well worth a stroll. Further details on these local trails can be found here.
If you're still full of energy, even more fantastic walking trails can be found here at 'I Walk Cornwall' which is Smartphone enabled.

Kennal Vale

Kennall Vale is a beautiful woodland with fascinating remnants of its industrial past as a gunpowder factory. Located between Redruth and Penryn, literally minutes drive from Chy Lowen, this is well worth a visit. Now a nature reserve, the woods around the River Kennall are dotted with old granite ruins, truly beautiful, more details about it's history can be found here.
